SHILLONG: Thousands of teachers under the banner of the All Meghalaya Primary School Teachers Association (AMPSTA) took to the streets of Shillong on Wednesday, to voice their demands before the state government.

The teachers held a public march carrying placards, beginning from the Golf Link Community Hall in Pynthorumkhrah. The procession proceeded through Polo and Saw Furlong before returning to Polo and concluding at the Golf Link Community Hall, where the teachers are scheduled to hold a public meeting.

The teachers are demanding that sanctioned posts in deficit and non-government schools be retained following the retirement of teachers. They have also sought the filling up of all vacant posts in government and deficit lower primary (LP) schools, implementation of the Government PRAN system, and exemption of primary school teachers from Booth Level Officer (BLO) duties.

They have further demanded the withdrawal of certain orders issued on July 27, 2026, along with several other demands.
