The Ri Bhoi police, in a joint operation with the East Khasi Hills police on Thursday, arrested a surrendered member of the Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) on allegations of assisting the HNLC’s overground operations.
The surrendered HNLC member, identified as Sromwell Mawdoh, 41, was arrested at his residence in Umpling Dongsharum, under Rynjah Police Station.
Police arrested Mawdoh on allegations of his involvement in extorting money in the name of the HNLC.
According to police, Mawdoh was arrested, and a case was registered on allegations that he had extorted money, as directed by the HNLC, from several businessmen and civilians around Shillong.
The investigation is ongoing as of the filing of this story.
