Shillong: As preparations for the Monolith Festival are currently underway, the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC), the organizer, has announced that all expenses will be covered by the Government of Meghalaya through the Department of Tourism.
The Monolith Festival is scheduled to take place from December 4 to 9 at the Heritage Village in Mawphlang, East Khasi Hills.
During a press conference on Thursday, the Deputy Chief Executive Member (Dy CEM) of the KHADC, PN Syiem stated that the arrangements for the Monolith Festival are in progress, and all financial expenses will be funded by the State government through the Department of Tourism. This initiative aligns with the primary goal of promoting tourism in the state.
Syiem mentioned that the government is currently calculating the estimated costs for the festival. However, the Council has already allocated ₹10 lakh as a budget for the event.
The KHADC has previously hosted the festival twice, in 2011 and 2016. Despite efforts by previous Executive Committees of the Council in recent years to revive the festival, their attempts did not come to fruition. Nevertheless, the 2023 edition of the Monolith Festival is expected to be ‘bigger and better’ than its predecessors.
