Shillong: The Anti-Influx Operation Cell of the Hynniewtrep Achik National Movement (HANM) on Monday carried out a drive against non-local workers engaged in road construction along the Shillong–Dawki road within the areas of Mylliem Marbaniang, the Western By-Pass at Weilyngkut, and Sumer in Ri Bhoi district.
The operation began at Mylliem Marbaniang and later extended to workers involved in the Western By-Pass project in Weilyngkut and Sumer. After verifying documents, the organisation sent back those found without proper papers to their places of origin, in the presence of law enforcement authorities.
During the drive, an argument broke out between members of the organisation and the police. It was also observed that several non-local workers were employed in the state with valid labour licences issued by the state government for a specific duration.
