East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner Abhilash Baranwal, IAS, has said a show-cause notice has been issued to the organisers of a fishing competition and lucky draw event that caused a major traffic jam in Mawryngkneng on August 29, 2026.
Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, September 1, Baranwal said the district administration had issued the notice to the organisers for allegedly violating the conditions of the permission granted for the event. He also said the police had been directed to register an FIR in connection with the matter.
Baranwal further said that, going forward, organisers seeking permission to conduct fishing competitions and lucky draw events would first be required to undergo a joint inspection involving the police, Dorbar Shnong, district administration and the Fisheries Department.
