The Government of Meghalaya has announced the first edition of the Shillong International Film Festival 2026, scheduled from March 25 to 27 at the State Convention Centre, Shillong.
Organised by the Directorate of Information and Public Relations, the three-day festival aims to position Meghalaya as a global filmmaking destination while boosting the state’s creative economy.
The festival will showcase a diverse lineup of regional and national films, including works by Pradip Kurbah, Romi Meitei, Tyrell R Lyngdoh and others from across the Northeast. International films such as “Impermanent Residents” by Tuan Huu Nguyen and “Agent of Happiness” by Arun Bhattarai will also be featured.

The event will include masterclasses by Dominic Sangma (screenwriting) and Arnab Gayan (cinematography), along with a Student Short Film Competition themed “Beyond Borders”.
The festival also aims to promote tourism and local employment through film shooting initiatives, while providing a platform for young filmmakers to showcase their work.
