Shillong Press Club Clarifies: No Written Approvals Issued for Press Conferences

Share

The Shillong Press Club (SPC) has denied the allegations made by Bramachari Mukundanand, representative of Jagatguru Shankaracharya Swami Avimukteshwaranda Saraswati, regarding the cancellation of a scheduled press conference. The SPC clarified that the decision to cancel the event was made by the organizers, not the press club.

In an official statement, SPC President Deimaia L. Siangshai addressed the claims, calling them “unfounded and baseless.” Siangshai explained that the SPC does not issue written approvals for press conferences and confirmed that he had personally contacted the organizers to inquire about their delayed arrival, contrary to claims that the club had rejected their request.

The SPC also expressed concern over the presence of Hynñiewtrep Youth Council (HYC) members and state police outside the press club during the scheduled event, noting that it undermined the club’s authority and integrity.

The SPC further emphasized that the club is a neutral platform open to all individuals and groups, regardless of race, caste, or religion, for hosting press events.
