The Seng Samla Hima Malai Sohmat Syiemship has called on the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) to conduct long-pending elections for the Syiem, a position that has remained vacant for 11 years. A delegation, led by President Tynshain Ronsang, met with Deputy CEM Pynshngain N Syiem on Thursday to submit a memorandum, pressing the Council to act on the matter.
Speaking to the media, Tynshain revealed that this was the third request submitted to the KHADC, with no response so far. He emphasized the importance of resolving the leadership issue in the Hima.
Deputy CEM Pynshngain N Syiem acknowledged the delay, attributing it to internal family disputes within the Syiem clan. However, he assured the delegation that the Council will soon hold the necessary elections to select a new Syiem.
