Scooter Riders on Alert as Theft Cases Rise in Shillong; CCTV Captures Suspected Thief

HEADLINES

Concern is growing among residents of Shillong, particularly scooter owners, following a series of theft incidents targeting two-wheelers and valuables left inside them, even during broad daylight in busy public areas.

Over the past few days, at least five to six individuals have reportedly lodged complaints after personal belongings kept inside their scooters were stolen while parked in public places.

The incidents have been corroborated by CCTV footage captured in the Dhankheti and Lachaumiere areas, which allegedly shows the same individual carrying out the thefts.

Apart from the theft of valuables, reports of scooters being stolen outright have also become increasingly common in recent weeks and months. Residents say cases of two-wheelers disappearing from parking areas and even from outside residential premises are being reported almost daily.

The recurring incidents have raised concerns about public safety and the security of vehicle owners in the city.

Citizens have been urged to remain vigilant and avoid leaving valuables inside parked scooters, regardless of the location or time of day.

There have also been calls for authorities and vehicle dealers to undertake awareness campaigns on scooter security and theft prevention measures to help protect two-wheeler owners from falling victim to such crimes.

Residents hope that enhanced surveillance and stricter enforcement will help curb the rising number of theft cases in Shillong
