The office of Samanda C&RD Block recently led journalists to inspect the Bridge at Simsang River, a 140-meter-long structure built at a cost of approximately ₹2 crore.
Enok Marak the Junior Engineer of the Samanda CNRD Block, highlighted the significance of the bridge for the local community, noting that it has greatly benefited 8 to 9 nearby villages.
Before the bridge’s construction, residents, including schoolchildren, had to cross the Simsang River using makeshift boats, which posed challenges, especially during the rainy season.
Completed in 2018, the Copper Bridge was fully operational by 2022, providing a safe and reliable route for villagers. Located in Chisobibra Village in East Garo Hills, the bridge has dramatically improved connectivity, making travel easier and safer for residents.
The project was inaugurated by Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on April 5 this year.
