An office of SAI Computers Limited at Ranikor-Pamdaba was allegedly set on fire by unidentified miscreants on the night of June 7, causing significant damage to property and equipment.
According to an FIR lodged by Rajeev Ranjan Kumar, the company’s office was targeted in an arson attack, resulting in the destruction of computers and other office equipment.
In his complaint, Kumar estimated the losses to be between ₹2.5 lakh and ₹3 lakh due to the fire.
Following the complaint, the Ranikor Police Station registered a case and initiated an investigation into the incident. Police are currently probing the circumstances surrounding the fire and trying to identify those responsible.
The incident comes amid growing opposition from pressure groups and residents of Ranikor, Mawphlang and Mawsynram C&RD Blocks against the government’s decision to engage SAI Computers Limited for electricity distribution services in the region.
Several organisations had earlier threatened to launch protests and march to the Secretariat demanding the cancellation of the company’s contract.
The controversy took a significant turn on June 9 when Conrad K. Sangma announced that the government’s contract with SAI Computers Limited would be withdrawn from the affected constituencies.
Police investigations into the alleged arson case are ongoing.
