Russell Peters Sells Out North East India’s First International Comedy Show in Shillong

HEADLINES

Shillong is set to witness a historic moment today as North East India hosts its **first-ever
major international stand-up comedy show**, with global comedy icon Russell Peters
performing live to a **completely sold-out audience**.
Peters has already arrived in Shillong and is currently exploring the city ahead of his
performance. He has expressed his appreciation for the city’s unique vibe and is looking
forward to performing for the audience this evening.
The show will take place today, 27th March, at the Lariti International Centre for Performing
Arts and Culture. With tickets fully sold out, audiences are advised to arrive by **5:00 PM**,
ahead of the **6:00 PM show**, to comfortably experience the venue atmosphere, including
stalls and beverages.
Russell Peters, one of the world’s most successful stand-up comedians, is on his India tour
and selected Shillong as his exclusive stop in Northeast India. Known for his sharp
observational humour and multicultural storytelling, Peters has performed to sold-out arenas
across North America, Europe, Asia, the Middle East, and Australia.
This landmark event marks another milestone in Meghalaya’s rise as a destination for
world-class live entertainment. Over the past decade, Shillong has strengthened its
reputation as India’s “Music Hub,” hosting major international artists and festivals such as
the Shillong Cherry Blossom Festival.
The comedy show also follows closely on the heels of a major rock concert held earlier this
week, creating a vibrant entertainment weekend in the city and reinforcing Shillong’s growing
appeal for cultural tourism.
Speaking about the event, Jason Manners of Rockski said:
“For the first time, audiences here are experiencing a global stand-up comedy icon
performing live in the region, and the response has been phenomenal with a sold-out show.
Shillong is truly coming into its own as a destination where world-class entertainment meets
an incredible audience.”
Russell Peters also shared his excitement about being in Shillong:
“I’ve heard a lot about Shillong, and I’m really enjoying the vibe here already. I’m looking
forward to the show tonight; it’s always special performing in a new place, especially one
with such great energy.”
Brenda Pakyntein, Director of Tourism, Government of Meghalaya, added:
“Meghalaya continues to grow as a hub for cultural and entertainment tourism. Hosting a
globally renowned artist like Russell Peters and seeing such an overwhelming response
reflects the strong appetite for international live experiences in the state.”
