Shillong, August 27, 2024 – The 10th Convocation of the University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM) was a momentous occasion, attended by numerous Vice Chancellors, scholars, and other dignitaries. A total of 1,639 students graduated, with 17 earning Ph.D. degrees, 906 obtaining Post Graduate degrees, and 716 receiving Undergraduate degrees. The event also honored two cultural icons, Shri Zubeen Garg from Assam and Shri Lou Majaw from Meghalaya, with honorary degrees for their significant contributions to art, culture, peace, unity, and social progress through their music.
Lou Majaw expressed deep gratitude to USTM for the recognition. Addressing the students, he emphasized the importance of living a responsible life while pursuing knowledge. USTM Chancellor Shri Mahbubul Hoque welcomed all participants, expressing his aspiration for USTM to achieve global recognition and urging everyone to contribute to this vision.
Former UGC Chairman Prof. Ved Prakash also commended USTM for its educational achievements in the region and expressed hope for its continued growth. The event highlighted USTM’s commitment to advancing education in Meghalaya and beyond, with support from the state government.
