Shillong: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma on Tuesday said removing Advocate General Amit Kumar was not a straightforward decision, citing the legal department’s complex and interconnected role in the functioning of the government.
Responding to questions from reporters over the demand by lawyers to remove Kumar, Sangma said the government was willing to listen to the concerns raised by the legal fraternity but stressed the need to find an appropriate way to resolve the issue.
He said the Advocate General’s performance should be assessed by seeking feedback from state government officials and ministers, noting that Kumar had represented the state government in numerous cases before both the Meghalaya High Court and the Supreme Court.
Sangma emphasised that the legal department was a critical component of the government, making it necessary to address the concerns through a considered and coordinated approach.
