The leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Assembly,Dr.Mukul Sangma, stated that rampant mining and illegal trade of coal in Meghalaya is carried out because there is support or protection received from higher authorities.
Speaking with media persons today in Shillong, Dr.Mukul said that if one is to make a visit to the coal bearing districts such as South West Khasi Hills,West Khasi Hills,South Garo Hills, East Jaiñtia Hills, one will find the same kind of information as he has gathered through the media and persons involved closely with the trade.
But from time to time, the State Government keeps claiming that there is no such illegal trade happening in Meghalaya.
