State Minister Kyrmen Shylla stated that the public is highly eager to see the resumption of coal mining through scientific methods. Speaking recently, he mentioned that a public hearing was held in East Jaintia Hills, where there was unanimous support for restarting coal mining operations.
Minister Shylla emphasized that people are particularly keen to understand the new scientific approach to coal mining, especially since mining was banned in 2015. He noted that several applicants have already completed the necessary procedures for obtaining mining licenses, with only the final steps remaining to start operations.
However, he also highlighted the importance of agriculture as an alternative livelihood. He suggested that people could utilize the lands, previously used for coal mining, for farming, which would reduce their dependence on mining as their sole source of income.
