Shillong, Oct 21 — In a joint operation, the East Khasi Hills Police and the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) destroyed an illegal cannabis (kynja) plantation discovered on a hillside near Laitlulong village under Sohiong. The operation was carried out under the supervision of SDPO Sohra, Shri Pynhun Syiem, and Executive Magistrate Dr. CJK Warjri, with officers from the Excise, Forest, and Environment Departments also participating.
The team located a large growth of cannabis plants during the inspection and immediately cut down and burned the plants on-site. The operation was conducted in the presence of the village sordar, who confirmed that the plants had grown naturally and were not cultivated by any individual.
All seized plants were loaded into a truck and transported for controlled burning to prevent further spread. Authorities reiterated their commitment to continue such drives to eradicate illegal narcotic cultivation in rural areas of the district.
