Overloaded Trucks on NH62 Endangering Lives and Damaging Roads, Says MP Saleng Sangma

HEADLINES

Tura MP Saleng A. Sangma has raised an alarm over the rising menace of overloaded trucks on National Highway 62. He highlighted that these vehicles not only deteriorate the road infrastructure but are also responsible for numerous accidents and loss of lives due to reckless driving.

Speaking on the issue, Saleng revealed that he had received multiple complaints from the public about the dangers posed by these overloaded trucks. He cited a recent tragic incident where a young girl lost her life after being run over by one such truck.

Saleng criticized truck drivers for their lack of discipline, stating that their behavior puts other road users at great risk. He also called out the government for failing to act despite clear directives from the Supreme Court prohibiting overloaded vehicles.

He further pointed out that in Tura, overloaded trucks often operate even during daytime hours, disrupting traffic in the already congested town area. This creates additional challenges for local residents and commuters.

“These trucks, transporting goods between India and Bhutan, continue to flout regulations without any checks. The government must implement strict measures and ensure compliance with traffic laws instead of allowing this dangerous practice to persist,” said Saleng.
