The National People’s Party (NPP) on Tuesday sought to underline its unity, with all 33 of its MLAs attending a party meeting chaired by NPP national president and Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma in Shillong.
The meeting was attended by NPP state president and Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong, Deputy Chief Minister and NPP national vice president Sniawbhalang Dhar, along with all NPP legislators. The full attendance comes amid renewed speculation on social media about possible differences within the ruling party and a potential political shift among its MLAs.
The NPP leadership has repeatedly dismissed such reports. Sangma has maintained that the party remains united, while Dhar recently stated that all 33 NPP MLAs remain together and that the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) government continues to function with unity and stability.
Tynsong has also rejected reports of any attempt by the BJP to break the NPP, saying there was “no such attempt at all” and asserting that the MDA government would complete its full term.
Tuesday’s meeting further reinforced the party leadership’s position that its legislators remain together under Conrad Sangma’s leadership. The meeting also provided an opportunity to discuss organisational matters and the party’s priorities going forward.
With all 33 legislators present, the NPP leadership sought to counter speculation circulating online about divisions within its ranks and reaffirm the party’s position of unity.
