The National Institute of Technology (NIT) Meghalaya will hold its 11th convocation on October 19, 2024, at the State Convention Centre, Shillong. Suvamoy Saha, Managing Director of Eveready Industries India Ltd, will grace the event as the chief guest, while Prof. Avinash Kumar Agarwal, Director of IIT Jodhpur, and Maj Gen Rajesh Kumar Jha, AVSM (Retd), Director (Personnel) at NEEPCO Ltd, will attend as guests of honor.
Speaking at a press briefing at the Shillong Press Club, NIT Meghalaya Director and Professor of Mechanical Engineering, Pinakeswar Mahanta, announced that the convocation will honor 193 scholars, including 140 B. Tech graduates, 9 M. Tech graduates, 23 M. Sc graduates, and 21 PhD scholars. The top-performing students will receive gold and silver medals, and the best student will be awarded the prestigious President’s Gold Medal.
Mahanta further revealed that NIT Meghalaya will relocate to its permanent campus in Sohra by December 2024, with classes set to begin on February 1, 2025. The new campus will feature state-of-the-art facilities, including academic buildings, hostels, dining areas, residences, offices, laboratories, storage areas, a library, and advanced IT infrastructure.
He added that the institution’s development aligns with state policies to reserve seats for local students and ensure improved education for the indigenous population of Meghalaya.
