Shillong, August 17: The Administration of North Eastern Hill University (NEHU) has urged the workers on strike under the All NEHU Workers’ Union to call off their agitations because the administrators are trying to study in detail the valid demands put up by them.
Speaking today with media persons the Vice- Chancellor, Prof. Prabha Shankar said that the Negotiation Committee has found that the demands of the workers under the ANEHUWU keep changing from time to time, and from the side of the Administration they will try to resolve the demands which are valid.
At the same time he affirmed that the strike of the workers has affected the functioning of the University, and urged the workers to call off their agitations, but if they do not comply then the Administration will have no choice but to take alternative steps.
On the one hand the Administrators of the University expressed that it is not easy to meet all the demands put forward by the workers because there are regulations to be followed as per the directive of the Central Government.
With regards to the regularisation demand, the Administration of NEHU expressed that they are in the process of preparing all the requirements which should be taken into account because as it is at present there is no proper data in place, and at the same time the process of recruitment of the workers is also being studied.
