Mylliem MLA and Congress leader Ronnie V. Lyngdoh on Friday accused Voice of the People’s Party (VPP) MDC candidate Aibandaplin Lyngdoh Nonglait of misleading voters regarding her educational background.
Lyngdoh alleged that Nonglait, in her affidavit for the MLA election, did not disclose that she had studied Theology. He claimed that while she publicly stated she pursued Theology, her affidavit only mentions completing Class XII.
“This raises concerns about the extent to which candidates may exploit people’s religious sentiments for electoral gains,” Lyngdoh said. He further questioned the integrity of a candidate who, according to him, could mislead voters even before winning an election.
When asked about VPP’s alleged use of religion in politics, Lyngdoh said that while the BJP is often accused of leveraging faith for political advantage, the VPP operates differently but still plays on religious sentiments.
