Shillong: The All Jaintia Muster Roll Workers and Labour Union has urged the Meghalaya government to implement the revised retirement age of 60 years for muster roll workers and reinstate those allegedly forced into retirement.

Union president Khroo L Pariat said on Monday that the union had written to Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma seeking implementation of the decision, which increased the retirement age from 58 to 60 years.

Speaking to reporters, Pariat said thousands of muster roll workers welcomed the government’s approval of the union’s demand.

He urged the government to implement the decision retrospectively from August 25, 2025, the date of a notification issued by Cyril V Diengdoh, Commissioner and Secretary, Personnel and Administrative Reforms (B) Department.

Pariat also welcomed the government’s decision to increase wages for workers, but stressed that announcements must be followed by actual implementation.
