The South Shillong MLA, Sanbor Shullai, known for his kindness and admired by his constituents, brought joy to 150 needy families by giving them early Christmas presents on Wednesday that will be making their festive season brighter and more meaningful.
During a small Christmas celebration, Shullai shared that what inspired him to take this initiative was meeting a group of underprivileged children who told him they had never tasted a Christmas cake. They said this year, they would come to his house to get one.
He explained that the funds for the initiative were drawn from the Discretionary Grant of ₹7 lakhs. He gifted each of the 150 households a 25kg packet of rice, dal, cooking oil, sugar, other essentials and ₹2000 so they could buy Christmas cakes.
Shullai reminded the people that, as their representative, he is available for them 24/7 and that his house is always open for those in need. He added that no one who has sought help from him has ever left empty-handed.
