Shillong: As part of the 50 Years of Meghalaya Statehood celebration, the Chief Minister of Meghalaya, Conrad Kongkal Sangma made an announcement that the State Government has taken the step for accept the proposal to organise the 83rd National Table Tennis Championship 2021 in Shillong at an estimated cost of not less than Rs. 1.5 crores.
Speaking with media persons today, Sangma spoke of expense to be incurred for the Championship, which will be the second time for the State to organise such a big event of the country.
In this Championship it is expected that the delegates at this event will be 650 in total in which 450 from this total will be the players, and the tournament is scheduled to be held at SAI Multipurpose Indoor Sports Hall which is situated inside the premises of the North-Eastern Hill University.
The Tabke Tennis Championship will be held from the 18th to the 25th of April, 2022 in which 10 athletes from the state will compete.
Furthermore, Sangma said that prominent persons will also grace the Championship in which one of them is the Deputy Chief Minister of Haryana who is also the President of the Haryana Table Tennis Association.
Following the Table Tennis Championship, Sangma informed that the State will prepare next to accept or organise many more different tournaments.
Famous athletes of India such as Monica Batra, a women athlete who represented the country in the Tokyo Olympics last year, A.Sharath Kamai, Sudhrita Mukherjee and a few others more will be there at the Championship.
