A renewable energy initiative by the Sauramandala Foundation has been honoured with the Best Innovator Award at the World Sustainable Development Summit 2026.
The project, supported under the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Global Environment Facility (GEF) Small Grants Programme, was recognised for promoting clean energy, climate resilience and sustainable livelihoods.
The initiative focuses on integrating solar-powered solutions with community-led enterprises in rural areas, helping small businesses and local communities access sustainable energy while reducing reliance on conventional sources.
The award was presented during a thematic session highlighting the role of women and community leadership in climate action and achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Meanwhile, local entrepreneur Reena Nongrum received the Best Stall Award at a national agri-tech conference held at the ICAR Research Complex for North Eastern Hill Region in Umiam.
In another recognition, Ibakordor Wahlang was honoured with the Women Achiever’s Award 2026 under the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao initiative in Ri Bhoi district.
These achievements highlight how grassroots initiatives are strengthening entrepreneurship, empowering women, and promoting sustainable development across the region.
