Shillong: Meghalaya Police on Sunday conducted a detailed crime scene reconstruction in Mylliem as part of the ongoing investigation into a series of ATM thefts reported in East Khasi Hills district.
According to police officials, six accused persons have been identified in connection with the cases. The accused include Salim of Dorakhi, Mewat in Haryana; Rahul of Bazidpur in Nuh district; John Fishal Lyngkhoi of Umpling; Joyous Dura of Mawlai Nongkwar; and Rejaul Korim and Lius Ali, both residents of Assam.
The investigation relates to three separate ATM theft incidents reported over the past several months. The first case occurred on May 21, 2025, when unidentified miscreants broke into an ATM at Mawkriah and decamped with cash amounting to ₹28,13,100.
Another incident was reported on December 30 at Smit, where thieves stole ₹35,57,000 after breaking into an ATM kiosk.
In the most recent case, an ATM located at Mylliem was targeted on February 8 this year, with around ₹35,00,000 reportedly stolen.
Altogether, the stolen amount from the three incidents is close to ₹1 crore. Police officials stated that the cash remains unaccounted for as the investigation continues.
Authorities are examining the role of the accused and reconstructing the sequence of events at the crime scenes to gather further evidence and strengthen the case.
