Shillong: The Meghalaya government will identify a parking site at Umtyngngar for commercial vehicles from outside the state, encouraging tourists to hire local taxis for sightseeing.
Deputy Chief Minister (Transport) Sniawbhalang Dhar, said the decision was taken at a meeting on Monday, which also resolved to form a committee comprising homestay owners, taxi operators and government representatives to ensure local stakeholders benefit from tourism.
The meeting, attended by police officials, the Deputy Commissioner and Tourism Department officials, also discussed strengthening security at tourist destinations, particularly Sohra, to ensure visitors’ safety.
