Shillong: Meghalaya Deputy Chief Minister in charge of Urban Affairs, Sniawbhalang Dhar, has said that the state government is still searching for a suitable location to relocate street vendors currently operating along Shillong’s main roads.

Speaking to reporters on Thursday, Dhar said the government intends to shift all roadside vendors to a designated location where they can continue their businesses.

He maintained that the relocation process would be undertaken once an appropriate site is identified, reiterating the government’s commitment to finding a suitable alternative for the vendors.

Dhar indicated that the government has set a target to relocate all street vendors from the city’s main roads but has yet to finalise the location.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Chief Minister also provided an update on Polo Market, revealing that its management has recently been entrusted to a company.

He said the only remaining formality is the signing of an agreement between the company and the state government before the management arrangement can formally take effect.
