Shillong: The state government has informed that only ₹27 crore remains to be paid out of a total of ₹98 crore to 201 workers and suppliers of the now-closed Mawmluh Cherra Cement Limited (MCCL) in Sohra. Deputy Chief Minister in charge of Industries, Sniawbhalang Dhar, said the pending amount will be cleared in the 2026–27 fiscal year. He clarified this while replying to a question raised in the Assembly by Ardent M. Basaiawmoit, who sought details on payments to contractors and suppliers of coal and other materials. Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma added that discussions are ongoing with stakeholders, including the Syiem of Hima Sohra and local representatives, on repurposing the MCCL site into a resort or hotel to promote tourism, in line with the aspirations of the people of the area.
