Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma has clarified that the Invest Meghalaya Agency (IMA) has not allocated any land to the government.
Addressing the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) meeting at the State Convention Centre on Tuesday, the Chief Minister stated the need for industrial development to achieve the state’s vision of becoming a 10-billion-dollar economy.
He explained that the IMA was established to replace the Single Window Agency, with a focus on facilitating land acquisition for industrial purposes. The agency aims to create industrial estates, similar to the Meghalaya Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC), where land can be allocated to various departments for setting up factories in different sectors.
Sangma assured that the state government has no intention of interfering with the autonomy of District Councils.
