Meghalaya Cabinet approves Amendments to four key Service Rules

The state Cabinet on Thursday approved amendments to four important service rules to address administrative concerns. These rules include the Meghalaya Accounts Service Rules, 1996, the Meghalaya Local Fund Audit Service Rules, 1996, an amendment to Rule 5 of the Meghalaya State Electricity Regulatory Commission Rules, 2003, and the Meghalaya Food and Civil Supplies Rules, 2001.

Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma explained that the amendments were necessary due to the suspension of departmental promotions, which had led to complications. He stated, “These amended rules are necessary to resolve these issues.”

Sangma elaborated that the changes were largely technical, designed to incorporate certain provisions from official memorandums. This involved adjusting wording and nomenclature, as well as updating the rules to align with recent cabinet decisions. He described these as routine amendments needed to ensure the service rules remained up to date.
