Shillong: Meghalaya Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar, who also oversees Industries and Commerce, said the government’s initiative to bring sellers and buyers together is aimed at creating wider market opportunities for entrepreneurs and producers from the state.
Speaking at a sellers’ and buyers’ meet at the State Convention Centre in Shillong on Thursday, Dhar said the initiative would provide local entrepreneurs with a platform to establish business links and expand their markets.
Around 300 sellers from Meghalaya and 22 buyers from outside the country are participating in the two-day event, which began on Thursday and will conclude on Friday.
The participating international buyers are from Bangladesh, Canada, the United States, Uganda, Mauritius, the Netherlands, Sri Lanka, Bhutan, the United Kingdom and Kenya, along with buyers from across India.
Dhar said the government is also exploring the development of commercial complexes along major highways to provide dedicated spaces for local entrepreneurs to sell their products.
He said many entrepreneurs currently face difficulties in marketing their products due to a lack of suitable selling spaces, and the proposed complexes would help address the problem.
