MCA TO ORGANISE SENIOR MEN CHALLENGER CUP 2022

Shillong: The Meghalaya Cricket Association has made a public announcement with regards to its plans to organise the Senior Men Challenger Cup 2022 to begin on the 28th of March and end on the 9th of April 2022.

The tournament has 5 competing teams and the matches will be held in the Cricket Ground of J.N.Stadium, Polo.

Speaking with media persons, the Honorary Secretary of the MCA,Gideon Kharkongor claimed that the tournament is organised in part to enable the organisation of many different tournaments which has come after the successful organisation of tournaments for the different age groups, the U-15 for boys, the U-19 for boys and girls, U-23 for men and women and so on and so forth while adding that the Challenger Trophy for women’s was organised recently.

Kharkongor expressed that the game of cricket is not played as much by the youths in the State which he feels requires to be promoted in the rural areas of the State and it is through the organisation of these tournaments that perhaps many can witness the game, while expressing that the examples the captains of the five teams competing in the tournament are from different districts of the State which may be through this tournament can attract others also.

On the concluding day of this tournament, the Chief Guest who will grace the programme is Mohammad Azharuddin, a former captain of the Indian Cricket team.

With regards to the cash prizes for this tournament, Kharkongor informed that there will be no cash prize but what is done is exactly in compliance with the norms in which the BCCI tournaments are conducted, in which each player gets an athlete’s salary with provisions of food and lodging and so on and so forth.
