Nongpoh MLA and United Democratic Party (UDP) leader, Bah Mayralborn Syiem, has put forward a proposal to the expert committee, suggesting that 80% of government job reservations in Meghalaya should be equally allocated to Khasi, Jaintia, and Garo communities. Additionally, he emphasized that district-level jobs should be reserved exclusively for residents of the respective districts from the beginning of the application process.
Syiem also highlighted the need for special provisions in government jobs for people with disabilities, ensuring they are not overlooked in the reservation framework. He further proposed an increase in the job reservation quota for non-indigenous tribes living in Meghalaya, who currently receive only 5%.
After submitting his suggestions, Syiem expressed hope that the expert committee will take these recommendations into account while revising the state’s reservation policy.
