SHILLONG, March 21: The MDC of Mawlai constituency, Teiborlang Pathaw who is also a member of the United Democratic Party (UDP) today the 21st of March sent a letter to the President of the UDP to inform him of his exit from the party.
Pathaw won the MDC election in 2019 as an independent candidate but after his victory as MDC he joined the UDP following which he also held the post of Executive Member in the Executive Committee led by the UDP in the KHADC.
The MDC of Mawlai expressed that his exit from the UDP is due to the leaders of the UDP Mawlai Circle bypassing him in the decisions taken by the party even though there had been a resolution to strengthen the party.
He said that the party did not notify him when the Mawlai Circle was formed and the other reason is the betrayal of the party leaders to the point that a few already took the decision of announcing a candidate from the party for the upcoming Assembly Election in 2023.
He said that the announcement of the suspended Congress MLA’s name,P.T Sawkmie as the UDP candidate was also not notified by the leaders of the Central body as yet, but it is understood that this is done by only a few leaders of the UDP in the Circle which prompted him to look at a different way.
On being asked, Pathaw refused to divulge the name of the party he plans to join now but said that he shall gather the leaders and supporters tomorrow to deliberate on the next steps to take forward.
Even though Pathaw refused to say much on the steps he plans to take next with his supporters, but as per the news going around, it seems clear that he might join the National People’s Party any time.
