Shillong: Maduh FC emerged victorious in the grand finale of the J.M. Jala Memorial Football Tournament 2025, organised by the Seng Samla Mawlai Umjaiur (SSMU), after edging past Ai Mung B FC with a 2-1 win.
The glittering finale was graced by Shri Sosthenes Sohtun, MLA of Jirang and Minister in the Government of Meghalaya, who presided as the Chief Guest and officially declared the tournament closed.
The event witnessed spirited participation from both teams, but it was Maduh FC who showed grit and determination to seal the title. Loud cheers echoed through the ground as supporters from both sides and a large crowd of spectators celebrated the contest.
Present on the occasion were family members of Late J.M. Jala, local leaders of Mawlai Umjaiur, office-bearers of SSMU, and football fans who turned out in large numbers to witness the thrilling finale.
Before the final match began, a short cultural programme added colour to the evening, with speeches delivered by the Chief Guest, SSMU President Shri M. Mylliem Ngap, along with vibrant songs and dances by local youths and children.
The Seng Samla Mawlai Umjaiur organised the tournament in honour of Late J.M. Jala, an eminent personality and one of the first Khasi IAS officers, who had made significant contributions to the Mawlai community. The memorial trophy thus not only celebrates football but also pays tribute to a visionary leader whose legacy continues to inspire generations.
