Shillong : BJP MLA A.L. Hek said he has not yet received any official information or notification regarding the implementation of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC).
Speaking on Tuesday, Hek said that based on information circulating on social media, Union Home Minister Amit Shah had reportedly announced that 21 BJP-ruled states would implement the UCC, but that it would not apply to tribal communities or affect the tribal States.
However, Hek said he could not comment further until an official notification is issued.
If the Government of India is not going to implement it for the tribal communities, then that is fine. There is nothing more to discuss, Hek said.
