Traffic along the Shillong–Pynursla–Dawki road came to a complete standstill after a massive landslide occurred near Pomlum, below Laitlyngkot, on September 24. The slide was reportedly triggered by dynamite blasting carried out by the road construction company.
Despite continuous clearance work by the company’s excavators and workers, the debris remains piled up, causing a prolonged disruption. Several vehicles were stuck on both sides of the road overnight, with some commuters even spending the night inside their vehicles.
Authorities informed that the intensity of the collapse, coupled with the sheer volume of earth and rocks, has made the clearing operation time-consuming. Both Shillong-bound and Pynursla/Dawki-bound traffic remains blocked until the debris is fully removed.
