Shillong: BJP MLA Lahkmen Rymbui has responded to remarks made by Pastor E.H. Kharkongor over the decision of eight United Democratic Party (UDP) MLAs to join the BJP.
Speaking to the media on Thursday, Rymbui said the pastor’s criticism was misplaced, arguing that those who joined the BJP were fully aware of their decision.
He said religious leaders should instead pray for them and for their efforts to fulfil the aspirations and interests of the people.
Rymbui also pointed out that political leaders have switched parties in the past and that the recent move was not unprecedented.
