The Khasi Student Union (KSU) Shillong Mihngi Circle has taken steps to halt the Hindu Puja ritual that was being conducted at the North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS) hospital in Shillong.
KSU leaders visited the hospital premises and requested that the ritual be stopped immediately. They argued that the hospital is primarily a place for healthcare and education, and hosting religious activities within its premises could disrupt the smooth functioning of medical and educational services.
A discussion ensued between the KSU leaders and the hospital management. During this discussion, the KSU emphasized that the hospital should remain a neutral space and should not be used for religious programs of any kind. The intervention was made with the intent to maintain the hospital’s focus on its core responsibilities.
