Shillong: The Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) has recorded a total collection of ₹11,57,96,639 in professional tax for the current financial year, reflecting a steady increase in revenue from this sector.
Presenting the figures in the House on Wednesday, KHADC Executive Member (EM) Seiborlang Rynjah informed that ₹75,96,936 was collected in March, while an additional ₹10,81,99,703 was collected between April and September.

He explained that a range of professionals, including lawyers, fall under the purview of professional tax, and that banks operating within the Council’s jurisdiction are also required to make such payments.
The EM further stated that the Executive Committee is currently working on establishing a comprehensive and uniform format for assessing professional tax, aimed at enhancing transparency and efficiency in the collection process.
