SHILLONG, March 25: The Executive Member incharge of Elaka in the Khasi Hills District Autonomous District Council (KHADC), Jambor War on Friday called a meeting of the two Himas, Hima Sohïong and Hima Jirang, as well as the Sordars and the Secretaries, the Lyngdohs, the Lyngdohs of the Raid of the the 14 villages to deliberate on the demand of the JAC Ki Khun Ki Hajar Ka Hima Sohïong to return Nongwah-Mawtamur to Hima Sohïong.
Speaking after the metting, the EM said that the two Himas attended the meeting and Robertjune Kharjahrin, the Legal Adviser was appointed as the mediator for the settlement between these two Himas and if Nongwah-Mawtamur has to be returned to Hima Sohïong, it shall be through the mediator as discussed and agreed upon in the meeting.
With regards to the allegation that Hima Sohïong sold Nongwah-Mawtamur to Hima Jirang, the EM said that the Syiem of Hima Jirang and the Lyngdoh of Hima Sohïong clearly pointed with proof and evidences that no such kind of transaction on Nongwah-Mawtamur took place. He said that the taking over of Nongwah-Mawtamur by Hima Jirang came after the residents expressed a wish to become a part of Hima Jirang which had begun from 1987, through petitions submitted to Hima Jirang , the District Council and the State Government as well.
Furthermore, War said that in the 17th of April, 2015, a public meeting was held in Nongwah-Mawtamur and in this meeting, the public expressed clearly that they wanted to be under Hima Jirang, and on the 6th of August, 2015 following the mutual agreement from both the Himas, the District Council confirmed the wishes of the public for Nongwah-Mawtamur to be under Hima Jirang.
