Shillong: Dr Jemino Mawthoh, who had stayed away from active politics after leaving the United Democratic Party (UDP) last year, returned to the political arena on Saturday by formally joining the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Mawthoh was welcomed into the BJP by Meghalaya party president Rikman G Momin in the presence of senior leaders, including AL Hek and MH Kharkrang, along with other party functionaries at the BJP office in Shillong.
Mawthoh is a former MLA from the Nongthymmai constituency and former General Secretary of the UDP. He had also contested the Lok Sabha election in 2024.
He is also an Associate Professor at North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU).
Mawthoh was accompanied by family members and supporters during the joining programme.
