Jail Road hawkers seek compensation, allege PTVC rejection

Share

Shillong: Hawkers at Jail Road have expressed concern after being prevented from selling their goods, saying they have been left with unsold produce that they had purchased for the day’s business.

The hawkers appealed to the Shillong Municipal Board (SMB) to compensate them for their losses, particularly for vegetables and other perishable items that they were unable to sell and may now have to discard.

The hawkers also alleged that their cases had been rejected by the PTVC during hearings, claiming that decisions were being taken arbitrarily and that Certificates of Vending (CoVs) were being issued selectively.

Earlier in the evening, tension was reported between the hawkers and police personnel deployed along Jail Road, with a brief physical confrontation taking place as authorities attempted to prevent the vendors from displaying their goods.
