The Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP) has suggested to an expert committee that 80% of government job reservations be allocated equally between the Khasi-Jaintia and Garo communities, based solely on merit. This proposal aims to ensure fairness without favoring any particular group.
HSPDP General Secretary, Panbor Ryntathiang, stated that the party disagrees with job reservations based on population proportions and seeks to reform the reservation policy. The party fears that the current policy could reduce opportunities for indigenous communities to only 50%.
Regarding district-level jobs, the party recommended reserving 90% for local residents, as these positions are limited to specific districts and cannot be transferred elsewhere.
