HEADLINES

SHILLONG, April 11: The Deputy Chief Minister of Meghalaya, Prestone Tynsong said that it is not surprising to make Hindi a compulsory subject, and also said that the State Government from much an earlier time had made Hindi a compulsory subject, but it does not mean that the local language and English will be removed.

He said that whenever any official visit is made to Delhi, the Hindi language is everywhere, and for the present generation,it is compulsory to take Hindi upto Class X.

Tynsong said that with Hindi being made compulsory till Class X, it does not mean that the Indian Government will implement only the use of Hindi and no longer take English or the local language, and added that Hindi should be there as per the views of the Government and the future generations should know learn Hindi because they have to be a part of other plains areas in the country.

Furthermore, he said that they should not have a misunderstanding in thinking that the Indian Government is forcefully making Hindi a compulsory subject, but as it is at present, when visiting anywhere, a majority speak the Hindi language.
