Harijan Panchayat Committee Requests Extension for Final Decision Amid Consultations with Sikh Leadership

HEADLINES

Shillong: The Harijan Panchayat Committee has formally requested an extension of the two-week deadline set by the Hon’ble Deputy Chief Minister to convey their final decision on a pressing issue. In a recent communiqué, the Committee emphasized that the given timeframe is insufficient for them to consult with key authorities within the Sikh community.

Gurjit Singh, Secretary of the Harijan Panchayat Committee, stated that the Committee plans to seek the counsel of senior Sikh religious leaders, including the Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib, the Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee in Amritsar, and the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee, among others. “Their guidance is crucial,” Singh noted, adding that due to the current engagements and prior commitments of these leaders, consultations will not be possible for the next two to three weeks.

In light of these circumstances, the Committee has earnestly requested that the next meeting on this issue be scheduled for the last week of September. They expressed hope that by then, they will be able to present a well-considered response that reflects the broader consensus of the Sikh community.

The Harijan Panchayat Committee has politely sought the cooperation of the Government of Meghalaya in accommodating this request, underscoring the importance of the matter at hand.

The government has yet to respond to the Committee’s request for an extension.
