Shillong, April 9: Police on Thursday detained H B Nonglang along with two other leaders of the Green Tech Foundation after they staged a hunger strike outside the Secretariat.
The detention took place after nearly three hours of protest, with police escorting them into a bus and removing them from the site.
According to sources, the action followed repeated discussions between officials, including a magistrate and police personnel, who had asked the protesters to obtain prior permission from the Deputy Commissioner of East Khasi Hills before continuing the agitation.
However, Nonglang reportedly declined to seek permission, leading to their removal by authorities.
Before being taken away, Nonglang stated that the hunger strike would continue from custody, signalling his determination to carry forward the protest despite the detention.
The situation marks a further escalation in the ongoing agitation against the Lumpongdeng project.
