Shillong: Public Health Engineering (PHE) Minister Marcuise N. Marak has announced that the Greater Shillong Water Supply Scheme (GSWSS) is expected to be completed by next year. The project has so far achieved around 70% completion.
The minister said that earlier delays were due to land acquisition and related issues, but these have now been largely resolved, allowing construction to proceed steadily.
Speaking on the water supply scheme under the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM), Marak informed that ₹700 crore is yet to be paid to contractors under the funds released by the Government of India. He added that the Indian government has extended the JJM scheme until 2028 to ensure tap water supply reaches every household in Meghalaya.
Marak further clarified that while delays in fund disbursal have affected the pace of implementation, construction will continue without major interruptions.
